For the price of it, the deck works surprisingly well straight out of the box

It might be good enough to justify bringing the card in, but making sure you dont over-sideboard is critical, especially if you can envision a scenario in the match-up where the card might not be good
For reference, before the tax was added to the Companion mechanic, as long as you upheld the deckbuilding restriction that the Companion requested, you could add your Companion from the Companion zone (your sideboard) to your hand at no cost essentially allowing you to begin the game with a guaranteed extra card in hand
